The designation ChTP shall be open to all new members applying to the Institute of Chartered Technical Practitioners of Canada (ICTPC). New members shall make application to receive the designation. To receive the ChTP designation, new members/individuals must:

1. Show the ability to demonstrate competence in their field of specialization and practice.
2. Candidates for certification must possess a minimum of four years of practical experience in responsible charge of work in the specialty area. At the discretion of the Examination Committee, and to ensure the candidate's basic understanding of fundamental principles underlying the individual's field of work, the committee may conduct an examination/professional review interview.

All candidates are assessed on a one-to-one basis. Some of the requirements may be waived at the discretion of the Examination Committee.
