Membership In The Institute of Chartered Technical Practitioners of Canada
The Institute of Chartered Technical Practitioners of Canada exists to recognize the technical competence and ability of its members and has consistently been in the forefront in presenting briefs to various technical institutes and other responsible bodies. Entrance into the Institute is gained by the submission of documentary evidence of technical education and work experience. Various grades of Membership and Certification exist and are appropriate to an individual's training and experience. The Institute encourages its members to advance through the grades in order to attain the highest membership status, that of a Chartered Technical Practitioner.
On becoming a ICTPC member, one undertakes to maintain appropriate professional standards and a moral code of conduct by upholding and abiding by the Institute's Code of Ethics.
To be admitted into the ICTPC, a formal Application for admission must be made with no exceptions.
The following documents must accompany each application:
- A completed "Application Form" for the appropriate category of membership.
[Application Forms can be downloaded and printed in 'pdf' format from the Institute's Web-site or by request from the Institute by applying directly to the Institute either by E-mail or through the General Postal System.]
- A Curriculum Vitae or Resume detailing all of the applicant's educational achievements and work experience.
- Certified photocopies* of all educational certificates, degrees, and or diplomas and any other course awards attained by the applicant pertaining to the applicant's training or work.
- Certified Official transcripts** and detailed course outlines of engineering/technical programs from all colleges or universities attended
- Provide a minimum of 3 approved 'Sponsors' who have worked directly with the applicant, and who can verify his/her work experience, continuing improvement and ethical conduct. It is preferred that these Sponsors hold titles such as P.Eng., CET., PE, etc.. Sponsors such as direct managers/supervisors may be acceptable under certain circumstances.
- To assist the Examination Board's scrutiny of the application, signed and sealed letters of reference/recommendation from previous and present employers should be supplied by the applicant when possible.
- Relevant to a specific category of membership (Associate Technical Practitioner, Technical Practitioner, Chartered Technical Practitioner or Student), each Application must be accompanied by a Certified Cheque / Money Order / Money Gram in the amount relevant to that specific category of membership. Application and Processing fees are non refundable. In addition, the Institute will not waive the application and processing fees for any applicant, regardless of the extenuating circumstances.
- The applicant must provide two identical unaltered photos produced from the same film or from the same electronic file capturing the digital image. Photos must be taken within the last 12 months and they must be no more than 2 inches wide x 2-3/4 inches long (50mm x 70mm) in size. Photos must be printed on high quality photographic paper. The photographic paper must have a backing that accepts and retains the photographer's stamp and date and the guarantor's statement and signature, without smearing. - Any letters of "member in good standing" from other Institutions/Organizations

Applications received with incomplete documentation will not be processed until such time that all the missing information and/or fees are received.
**Certified Official transcripts-Must clearly show the Official insignia of the Technical College or University from which the applicant graduated. They must be dated and show the applicants name, course description, and pass-mark and mark/s received and be signed by an official of the Institute.
*Certified photocopies of all educational certificates, degrees, and or diplomas must be signed by an official guarantor. Such a guarantor can be any of the following and
- Must be accessible to the Institute of Chartered Technical Practitioners of Canada for verification.
- Have known the applicant personally for at least two years.
- Be one of the following: Chiropractor, Dentist, Geoscientist, Judge, Lawyer (member of a provincial bar association), Notary Public, Magistrate, Mayor, Medical Doctor, Minister of Religion (authorized under provincial law to perform marriages), Optometrist, Pharmacist, Police Officer (Municipal, Provincial or RCMP), Postmaster, Principal (of a primary or secondary school), Professional Accountant (APA, CA, CGA, CMA, PA, RPA), Professional Engineer (of any province or territory), Senior Administrator (in a university or community college--including CEGEPs), Teacher in a University, Veterinarian.
